Teeth Whitening

Whitening

Your smile is often the first thing a person notices about you. Unfortunately, food, beverages, tobacco use, certain medications, and other things can stain and discolor your teeth. Teeth whitening is a simple procedure that can whiten your smile and improve your appearance. This treatment option can also boost your confidence, make you look years younger, and give you that instant “wow factor” for special occasions.

While there are many ways to whiten teeth, Zoom and Opalescence remain two of the most effective. Learn more about these treatments and how they are performed in your dental office.

Zoom Teeth Whitening

Zoom is a popular procedure that works quickly and is highly effective at helping patients achieve a whiter smile. The procedure involves the use of a whitening substance that contains hydrogen peroxide. An LED light may be used during the procedure to achieve a brighter white.

There are several types of Zoom whitening treatments depending on your needs. The Zoom WhiteSpeed treatment makes your smile noticeably whiter in just 45 minutes using a whitening gel and LED lamp. If you have less time to spend at the dentist, the Zoom QuickPro treatment takes just 10 minutes at the dentist office while the patient continues to have a whitening substance sit on their teeth for 30 minutes.

Take-home trays are also available to patients who prefer to whiten their teeth in the comfort of their own homes. These at-home options typically consist of trays that are filled with whitening gel. Most at-home teeth whitening trays take longer to achieve the preferred results. You can expect to get a noticeably whiter smile at home in two weeks.

After a Zoom procedure, your dentist will provide you with instructions on how to care for your teeth. Your dentist will likely recommend avoiding foods and drinks that could stain your teeth. Tea, coffee, and cola are some of the worst offenders. Tobacco can also discolor your smile.

Opalescence Teeth Whitening

Opalescence is a leader in teeth whitening, offering patients quality, effective, and safe teeth whitening treatments. Their products are simple to use and provide excellent results. Like Zoom, there are several types of Opalescence teeth whitening products on the market, including Opalescence Go and Opalescence Boost.

Opalescence Go combines convenience with the power of professional-strength teeth whitening. This method of teeth whitening uses a flexible UltraFit tray that conforms to the patient’s smile, meaning there is no need to make a mold or impression of the teeth. The teeth whitening product is created with a combination of ultra-strength hydrogen peroxide, fluoride, and potassium nitrate.

With Opalescence Go, each kit contains ten trays for the upper teeth and ten trays for the lower teeth. The strength of the kit chosen correlates to the amount of time that the trays must be worn. The average time is between 15 and 60 minutes of wear time for between 5 and 10 days.

Opalescence Boost offers patients a faster way to whiten their teeth. This in-office procedure provides a one-time, ultra-fast whitening treatment that is chemically activated, meaning no whitening lights or dental lasers are needed. The ingredients combine smoothly and take just an hour to achieve optimal results. In addition, patients can wear the unique OpalDam to create a protective barrier between the teeth and gums.

These treatments can be useful for both intrinsic and extrinsic staining. Only natural teeth can be whitened. Tooth-colored restorations will generally not respond to bleach.

Both in-office and at-home bleaching trays are effective but provide different results. In-office teeth whitening can provide patients with better results in a shorter amount of time.
