5 Common Dental Issues and How We Treat Them

dental issues

Nobody is born with a perfect smile, but we can certainly help you make it become a reality! Throughout our education and decades of dental practice, we’ve seen thousands of patients with the same dental issues. Although each case we see has its own unique details, there are a few common reasons patients visit Bonham Dental Arts. If any of the below issues seem familiar to you, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

Crooked Teeth

A majority of adults have had braces as teenagers. However, as the decades go by, those teeth can retreat back to their original positions. For those whose teeth were “good enough” to not need braces as a teen, you may be uncomfortable with the slight misalignment now, as an adult. Regardless of how you got here or what your current state is, we can help you straighten your smile. One way is with Invisalign. These clear plastic trays slowly move your teeth into their proper position, without the need for large metal brackets and rubber bands!

Yellow Teeth

Years of coffee, wine, and acidic fruits can turn your teeth yellow, which makes your smile look unhealthy. We can bring back the healthy looking white smile you once had. We can perform teeth whitening in our office, or we can customize dental trays for you to take home and complete the whitening process yourself. This process can make your teeth three to eight shades whiter, and can be refreshed once per year to maintain the look.

Cavities

Sweet treats are certainly delicious, but it’s important to brush your teeth afterwards to prevent cavities and other dental issues. When the sugar builds up, it can create tiny holes in your teeth. If left untreated, you may experience pain, infection, and possibly need to have the tooth removed. To avoid this, we use a tooth-colored filling to prevent the cavity from getting any larger. The process is quick and painless. We use a local anesthetic that will wear off quickly, and the entire procedure takes about 30 minutes.

Damaged Tooth

If more than 50% of your tooth is missing, we’ll recommend a crown to cover it up and prevent further damage. We use CEREC CAD/CAM technology to design and create the crown in our office. The dental crown can then be installed in just one appointment. You don’t have to suffer through getting impressions taken, having a temporary crown installed, or disrupting your schedule with multiple appointments. CEREC dental crowns are a fantastic choice for renewing your smile.

Missing Tooth

A tooth can go missing for many reasons. Whether it became so damaged it needed to be extracted, or if it fell out during an injury, we can help return your smile with affordable dental implants in Largo, FL. Without an implant, your jaw bone will deteriorate, giving your face a sunken look. Instead, a dental implant installs a false tooth root made of titanium into your jaw bone in place of the missing tooth. Then, a cap is secured on the top of the “root” that is designed to match your natural teeth. You’ll have a healthy smile and nobody will know it’s not your real tooth!
