Dr. Carey Bonham to Coordinate “Give Kids a Smile”

Every year, the Pinellas County Dental Association (PCDA) and the Upper Pinellas County Dental Association (UPDCA) participate in the national ADA event called “Give Kids a Smile” (GKAS), which provides education, preventative and restorative care to low-income children who do not have access to care. 

After 3 years of coordinating this event in Pinellas County, Dr. Chris Wujik is passing on the torch to Dr. Carey Bonham of Bonham Dental Arts in Largo.  Dr. Carey Bonham will be in charge of orchestrating volunteers, transportation, and marketing this humanitarian event that is held annually in tandem with National Children’s Dental Health Month in February.

Dental Missions in Ecuador

After two weeks away, we’re happy to have our two doctors, Dr. Carey Bonham and Dr. Amy Bonham back home safely after their long trek to the equator.  Equipped with two suitcases full of dental supplies, tooth-brushes, and bibles, the doctors made their way into the heart of the Amazon jungles of Ecuador to meet the dental needs of families in the village of Bobananza.

While most of their day was spent pulling teeth, getting to know the children and being greeted so warmly by the people made the trip extremely rewarding. “We were using plastic chairs and flashlights,” Dr. Amy explains, ”and despite the lack of dental luxuries we’re accustomed to, they never complained about discomfort or anything because of one thing–they were simply grateful.” [Read more]

Dr. Carey Conquers Mt. Whitney…

…for the most part. For Months Dr. Carey has been preparing for this charitable climb called Summit for Someone, a program sponsored by Backpacker Magazine. The proceeds from the money he raised to go on the adventure goes to a youth wilderness program for under-privileged kids. [Read more]

Dr. Chris, Dr. Carey and of course Dr. Amy, who has a special interest in seeing pediatric patients, woke up at the crack of dawn to volunteer for “Give Kids a Smile,” a nation-wide event taking place all over the country and promoted through the ADA.
